Sept. 29 AP Poll: A new No. 1 rises in the AP Top 25
The Sept. 29 AP Top 25 brought a major shakeup in its leading four — the poll ranks four SEC teams in the top five spots, with the Big Ten earning three of the top seven.

The top 3
New No. 1 Alabama jumped three spots after beating Georgia 41-34 — knocking the Bulldogs down three spots to No. 5. Alabama is the third team to hold the top AP ranking so far this season — all three from the SEC (previously Georgia and Texas).
The Crimson Tide earned 1549 poll points, with 40 of the 63 first-place votes. Georgia, winners of two of the past three CFP National Championships, earned 1329 poll points.
No. 2 Texas looked solid in Arch Manning’s second start in place of injured QB1 Quinn Ewers, with a 35-13 win over unranked Mississippi State. The Longhorns fell one spot in the wake of Alabama’s dominant ranked win over Georgia. Texas earned 1525 poll points, with 19 first-place votes.
Ohio State held steady at No. 3 with 1445 poll points and 4 first-place votes after beating unranked Michigan State 38-7.
ACC takes 3 spots
The ACC took three spots again this week, led by No. 7 Miami up one on a 50-15 win over South Florida.
Also Ranked for the ACC are No. 15 Louisville, and No. 17 Clemson — both up four spots this week.
B1G takes seven spots
B1G teams ranked include No. 3 Ohio State, No. 6 Oregon, No. 7 Penn State, No. 10 Michigan, No. 11 USC, No. 23 Indiana (previously unranked), and No. 24 Illinois — at least six Big Ten teams factoring in the AP rankings each week so far this season.
Big 12 takes four spots
The Big 12 dropped to four AP-ranked teams this week — No. 16 Iowa State, No. 17 BYU up five on a 34-28 win at Baylor, No. 18 Utah down 8 spots after losing 23-10 to Arizona, and No. 20 Kansas State up three after a 42-20 win to knock Oklahoma State out of the Top 25.
SEC takes eight spots
Beyond No. 1 Alabama, the SEC is represented by No. 2 Texas, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Missouri, No. 12 Ole Miss down six spots after losing 20-17 to unranked Kentucky, No. 13 LSU, and No. 19 Oklahoma.
Texas A&M fell out of this week’s AP Top 25.
